UGM Accepts Books and E-books Donation from the Sampoerna Foundation

UGM accepts a donation of 350 books and 588 e-books from the Foundation
of Library Development Foundation of Indonesia (Sampoerna Foundation).
Symbolically, the transfer of aid was made by the Internal
Communication Manager of PT HM Sampoerna Tbk, Santi Djiwandono, to the
Executive Secretary of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Drs. Djoko
Moerdiyanto, MA, and the Head of the Library of UGM, Drs. Ida Fajar
Priyanto, MA, Friday (8 / 1), in the Sampoerna Corner Room, Unit II of
the UGM Library.

Drs. Djoko Moerdiyanto, MA, represented the Rector in the submission
of the donation and expressed his gratitude to PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. for
the assistance that they have provided. Djoko hopes that the increase
of the collection of books and e-books can be a source of enlightenment
for the academic community of UGM. "A University with a complete
collection of books in its library and is frequently accessed by the
academic community will be healthy for the university itself. The
library is a corridor where the university will move and prosperity
will be achieved, "he explained.

Furthermore, Djoko said, the current development of the library is
in line with the vision of the university. The habit of reading hard
copy books has become obsolete and has switched into reading digital
books. This is what will be the spirit of the UGM academic community.

Drs. Ida Fajar Priyanto, MA, added that from 271,000 people across
Indonesia who access digital information, 214,000 are from the UGM
academic community. This shows that the digital world has become an
important part of the UGM community.

Meanwhile, the Internal Communication Manager PT HM Sampoerna Tbk.,
Santi Djiwandono, said that the donation is a form of Sampoerna's
commitment to participate in assisting in enlightening the nation. This
step is expected to help increase the knowledge of the young generation
as the successors of the nation. In addition, this program is also
expected to support the vision of UGM to become a world-class research
university.

The event was also attended by Dedy P. Rahmananto, the former head
of the National Library, and librarians  in some work units in UGM.
After the transfer of the donation, the event continued with an
entrepreneurial seminar for students. The seminar was given by speakers
Dwi Santoso, herbal medicine manufacturer of Sarang Semut, and Saptuari
Sugiharto, owner of the Kedai Digital store.
